Brad Gobright: Νεκρός ο παγκοσμίου φήμης αναρριχητής - Έπεσε από γκρεμό 300 μέτρων

Ο Brad Gobright έγινε διάσημος καταρρίπτοντας το ρεκόρ ορειβασίας στην περίφημη διαδρομή "Nose' του ορεινού όγκου El Capitan το 2017.

Ο παγκοσμίου φήμης ορειβάτης και αναρριχητής Μπραντ Γκόμπραϊτ (Brad Gobright) σκοτώθηκε την Τετάρτη σε ηλικία 31 ετών, πέφτοντας από ύψος 300 μέτρων, ενώ κατέβαινε την πλαγιά ενός γκρεμού στο Ελ Πορτέρο Τσίκο στο Μεξικό.

Ο Καλιφορνέζος ορειβάτης, σύμφωνα με το CNN την ώρα της θανάσιμης πτώσης έκανε κατάβαση με σκοινιά μαζί με τον συνορειβάτη του Aidan Jacobson, 26 ετών, ο οποίος έπεσε από χαμηλότερο ύψος και τραυματίστηκε.

As many of you know, the weather in Vegas this season has been kinda terrible for climbing. Red Rocks has become a world renowned climbing destination for the winter months with people from all over the planet coming to climb the beautiful sandstone. The rock is very fragile when it’s wet and unfortunately it’s been a very wet two months. I’m glad to say I’ve had a countless amount of people messaging me about the current conditions of the rock. If you’re coming out here to climb I would recommend checking the weather report (for red rocks not Vegas) a week prior to your visit. South facing cliffs (most of Calico hills) should be good to go about two or three days after it rains. If there’s heavy rain for multiple days, I would recommend waiting four or five days. Again, check the weather report. The shady cliffs take much longer to dry (most of the long routes in the canyons or places like the Black Corridor). I would recommend waiting a week of full sunshine before climbing routes that are in the shade all day. This kind of etiquette will persevere the rock and help ensure your safety. Η σορός του άτυχου 31χρονου εντοπίστηκε από διασώστες την Πέμπτη, ενώ ο Jacobson μεταφέρθηκε για νοσηλεία για τραύματα που υπέστη στον αστράγαλο και άλλα σημεία του σώματός του. Ένας άλλος ορειβάτης της ομάδας του δήλωσε ότι το σχοινί τους μπλέχτηκε με αποτέλεσμα την πτώση των δύο ανδρών.


Το Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ επιβεβαίωσε τον θάνατο του Γκόμπραϊτ: «Τα ειλικρινή μας συλλυπητήρια στην οικογένειά του. Παρακολουθούμε στενά τις έρευνες των τοπικών αρχών και παρέχουμε την κατάλληλη προξενική βοήθεια. Δεν θα κάνουμε περαιτέρω σχόλια, σεβόμενοι την απώλεια της οικογένειας του Γκόμπραϊτ» ανέφερε εκπρόσωπος του αμερικανικού υπουργείου.

Flashback from last March when I was at The Creek for a month. This is an amazing tower route called The Kokanee Corner. A three pitch line that goes up the east face of the King of Pain tower in the Bridger Jacks. It was first done by Andrew Boyd and then later free climbed by Hayden Kennedy. This route along with the Carbondale Short Bus (another Hayden route) were my main goals for the trip. Not much is known about the Kokanee Corner and it has yet to see a second free ascent. The climbing is as hard as it is spectacular and it totally shut me down, even after a good amount of effort. The second pitch is where all the hardest climbing is at. The first half is bolted and the second half is protected by micro cams that are terrifying to fall on. It was certainly the hardest sandstone climbing that I’ve ever tried. That’s classic Hayden, secretly free climbing one of the most badass routes in the desert. Well it definitely kicked my butt and thats no secret. Photo by @samuelcrossley
